On Nov 3 1917, Francis James Burge died of wounds - He was one of a party working on the Standard Gauge formation east of
the Boesinghe on the morning of November 3 1917 when the enemy commenced shelling the immediate vicinity of their work. Before they could take cover, a shell of a large calibre burst in their midst wounding Sapper Burge seriously in the chest. He expired the same day at No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station.
He was buried in Solferino Farm Cemetery near Ypres, Belgium
He was recorded as being the son of Mrs. Burge and husband of Mrs. George De La Mare (formerly Burge), of Duke St., Bowmanville, Ontario. Born at Plymouth, England.
His 23 year old widow Agnes Burge formerly Harrison, remarried to George De La Mare on August 8 1918
