Upon arrival he stayed at YMCA United Church Hostel in Norval Ontario until a placement was found. Placement family unknown.

His parents and a younger brother George Albert Clayton arrived in Canada aboard The Duchess of York on August 30 1930 and settled in Kapuskasing.

John Alfred Married Anna Louisa Elliott sometime in 1934 and lived in O'Brien Township just outside of Kapuskasing Ontario. Their first daughter Frances Merle Clayton was born February 7, 1935 followed by a son, my father, Gerald William Clayton March 14 1937.

John Alfred became ill with typhoid fever due to drinking impure water and was hospitalized at St Paul's hospital in Hearst Ontario. Unfortunately he died from the typhoid on June 12 1939. His wife Anna had been pregnant yet was also very ill. She survived and on November 6,1939 gave birth to another daughter Margaret Alfreda Viowne Clayton.
