NotesIn March, 1901, Samuel Cummings, 10, arrived in Portland, Maine, with a group of 260 Dr. Barnardo children from London, England, to Toronto (193), Peterborough, Ontario (6) and to Russell, Manitoba (60).

In April of 1901, Samuel was placed on the farm of Robert Ritchie of East Luther, Ontario, Canada.

On August 31, 1901, Samuel Cummings committed suicide by taking Paris green (an extremely toxic blue green chemical with four main uses: pigment, animal poison (mostly rodenticide), insecticide, and blue colorant for fireworks.)
