In 1891, the year of his brother Alfred's birth, Charles Dakin, 1 year of age, was residing with his father, Thomas Dakin, 36, cabinet maker; and his mother, Ellen Dakin, 36; at 2 Brymer, Camberwell, Surrey, England. Other family members included: Lydia Dakin, 13; Nellie Dakin, 10; and Sydney Dakin, 6.
Charles Dakin (and his brother Alfred Dakin) arrived in March, 1901, with a group of 260 Dr. Barnardo children from London to Toronto (193), Peterborough, Ontario (6) and to Russell, Manitoba (60).
In 1901, Charles/Carles Dakin (on census as Aiken), 11, is shown as an immigrant with Emery Lambert and family in Moulton, Haldimand & Monck, Ontario, Canada.
On September 20, 1918, Charles Edwin Daken enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that his present address was 80 Alice, St. Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in London, England; that his next of kin was Emily Carter, his sister, who resided at 80 Alice, St. Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada; that he was born October 15, 1888; that he was a laborer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 6 inches; dark complexion; blue eyes, brown hair; and he was a member of the Salvation Army. He had 4 vaccination scars on his left arm; 2" scar on his upper left thigh; and a 2-1/2 inch scar on his right thumb.
