In 1891, the year of Alfred's birth, his father, Thomas Dakin, 36, cabinet maker; and his mother, Ellen Dakin, 36; were residing at 2 Brymer, Camberwell, Surrey, England. Other family members included: Charles Dakin, 1; Lydia Dakin, 13; Nellie Dakin, 10; and Sydney Dakin, 6.
Alfred Dakin (and his brother Charles Dakin) arrived in March, 1901, with a group of 260 Dr. Barnardo children from London to Toronto (193), Peterborough, Ontario (6) and to Russell, Manitoba (60).
In 1901, Alfred Dakin (on census as Aiken), 11, is shown as an immigrant with Emery Lambert and family in Moulton, Haldimand & Monck, Ontario, Canada.
On December 31, 1920, in Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was recorded between Alfred E. Dakin, 27, and Agnes M. Sawyer, 18, (daughter of Charles Sawyer and Amy Freedman). Alfred stated that he was born in London, England; that he was a barber by trade; that he was Presbyterian; and that the name of his parents were Thomas Dakin and Ellen Baker.
