In 1887, Alfred Derriate, 13 (along with brother, Henry Derrigate, 15), arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of children from Croydon Union Workhouse.

"Copy of Reports of Inspection of Pauper Children sent out to Canada made by Immigration Officers of the Dominion Government and received from the Colonial Office on the 12th December 1888.

Report of Mr. John J. Daley, Government Immigration Agent at Montreal.

A. Dungate, aged 13. From Croydon Union. Placed with Captain Ross, Gould, P.Q.?First class boy, health and conduct good; employer pleased with the lad."

Alfred Robert Dungate married Persena Louise Hansford, born September 22, 1876, daughter of Thomas Hansford and Mary Foster.

On October 29, 1917, at Trenton, Hastings, Ontario, Canada, Alfred Robert Dungate, 44 years, 2 months, acid worker, born in England, died of bronchitis as a result of fumes of acid, duration 12 hours and acute dilitation of heart.
