NotesThis obit came from the Lois Stanford British Home Child Collection.............................................................................................George Evans,85,retired Oak Leaf dairy farmer died...Athens ( Special) William George Evans,85 died at St.Vincent de Paul Hospital on Saturday June 28 having been a patient for the past five weeks.He was a retired dairy farmer at Oak Leaf. Born in England on January 13,1895, he was a son of the late Mr.and Mrs.William Evans. He came to Canada as a young man and was married at Lyn on May 10,1921 to Martha Jane Johnston..Mr.Evans became a very well known dairy farmer and did custom farm work for different farmers in the district.He was a great hockey fan and enjoyed his home and family.He w as a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church. A veteran of World War One, he was wounded while serving over seas. Predeceased by his wife,he is survived by four sons, Alfred Evans of Oak Leaf, Lornan Evans of RR 7 Perth,Osmund Evans of RR 3 Athens and Orval Evans of Oak Leaf:as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; also one brother and one sister in England,Reginald Evans and Laura Evans. Friend were received at Judson Funeral Home,Athens until Monday June 30,when funeral services were held in Holy Trinity Anglican Church,Oak Leaf,at 11 am.Rev.Jim Reisberry officiating. Interment followed in the family plot in Oak Leaf Cemetery. The pallbearers were all neighbors of Mr.Evans and included Harold Seabrooke,Dan Alguire,Ron Godkin,Rupe Green,Ken Montgomery and Gordon Snyder. Many memorial donations to charities as well as floral tributes,attested to the high esteem in which he was held.
