NotesCharlotte's life as a child was mostly poverty in Liverpool.

In 1901, Charlotte Evans, 5 years of age (her birthplace is shown as "Cases Oblaise"), was an inmate in the Liverpool Workhouse (EDITORS NOTE: also listed at the Workhouse a certain Susan Evans, aged 30, an unmarried domestic servant, could possibly be her mother.) (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 3420; Folio: 71; Page: 11.)

According to her descendant, Charlotte's mother, Suzy Evans, was often in trouble with various authorities, and Charlotte's father abandoned the family at some point in her early childhood.

In 1909, C. Evans, 12, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, England, along with a group of 64 children en route to Knowlton, Quebec, Canada.

At some point, Charlotte worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She was also thought to have worked on a farm owned by a Mr. MacDonald.
