NotesJohn L. George was sent from London, England to Toronto, Canada in 1895. His father John George, a ship steward disappeared and his mother had three children to care for with only four pound. Grace Lydiet George sold most of her furniture to keep her family together. However, it was not enough to keep her family together. She tried to place her two sons John and Charles Henry in care. In the end only John was accepted.

Once in care John gained some weight and remarked to be a good boy, happy and improving. Before being sent to Canada it was noted it will be difficult for him because of the racism he would face. The first homes rejected John until he was settled with Dr. Walter McKeown in 1896.

In March 1898 some boys broke into the McKeown home. John ran away and was not heard from for several years. Dr. McKeown was concerned about Johns disappearance.

In April 1902 a person named George Walker wrote and asked for the address of the family in England. This was the last note on John George from the agency.

John George married Jessie Mildred Harris on March 11, 1910 in Canada. The couple had a total of 10 children. They moved to the United States in 1914. John George died November 19, 1955.
