In 1901, Edward Headon, 8 years of age, was shown as a lodger, along with his family, in the home of Elizabeth Haberfield, 37, at 25 Milk Street, Walcot, Bath, Somersetshire, England. Other members of the family included: Archie Headon, 1 month; Caroline Headon, 35; Minnie [Amanda] Headon, 11; Maud Headon, 1; Herbert Headon [Robert Headon], 4; Olive Headon, 10; Thomas Headon, 12; and Walter Headon, 40, general labourer. In 1906, Edward Headon, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 479 children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [As Walter and Caroline Headon are his parents, other siblings who immigrated would have been: Robert Headon, who also arrived in 1906 with Barnardos on the Dominion; Olive Headon, who arrived in 1902 with Barnardos on the Colonian; and Amanda Headon, who arrived in 1906 with Barnardos on the Friesland.]

On February 18, 1915, Edward Robert Headon enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Bristol Cliff, England; that his next of kin was [his brother] Tom Headon, who address was unknown to him; that his date of birth was March 1, 1896; that he was a farmer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 8-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; hazel eyes; dark brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England. He had distinguishing marks of a mole on his right haunch; a scar on his right shin; and a scar on his right eyebrow.

On February 10, 1923, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Edward Albert Headon, 28, labourer, born in Bristol, England, son of Thos Samuel W Headon and Caroline Raikes; and Ethel Whybrow, 22, factory worker, born in Hammersmith, England, daughter of Richard Thomas Whybrow and Ellen Ellvinia Cooper.
