NotesIn 1891, William Hockham, 48, was shown residing with John, 12, Hannah Wright, 33, sister in law, and Alice Wright, 11, niece, in Clerkenwell, London, England.

On July 19 1891, William Hockham, 49, widower, butcher, married Hannah Wright, 33, at St James, Clerkenwell, London, England.

A birth registration was found for Rose Emma Hockham; Year of Registration: 1897; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: Holborn; County: London, Middlesex; Volume: 1b; Page: 652.

In 1910, Rose E. Hockham, 11, arrived in Quebec, Canada, with a group of 81 children, en route to Toronto, Canada. (Brother, Harry Hockham, had previously been sent to Canada with Barnardos in 1902.)

In 1911, Rose Emma Hockham's mother, Hannah Hockham, widow, was residing alone at 56 Lansdown Road Forest Gate, West Ham, Essex, England, and was employed doing housework. Her brother, George Hockham, was working as a houseboy for Charles Dixon in Gunthorpe Oakham, Rutland, England.

In 1915, Rose Emma's brother, George Frederick Hockham, joined the British Armed Forces to serve during World War I. His mother, Hannah Hockham, was shown as residing at 56 Lansdowne Road, Forest Gate, West Ham, Essex, England. On August 9, 1916, he was wounded and died on the same day. He is buried in Ferme-Olivier Cemetery in Belgium.

In 1919, his next of kin was shown as Harry Hockham, 25, was shown residing at Balcarras, Saskatchewan, Canada, with their sister, Rose Hockham, 21. A sister, Alice Gowen, 38, was shown as residing at 35, Dane Road, Merton, SW 17. (Hannah Hockham died in 1916 aged 58 in the West Ham district.)

Rose Emma Hockham died July 2, 1978. An obituary was found:

Emma Rose Hockham

On Sunday, July 2, 1978 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, Miss Emma Rose Hockham, aged 81 years of Winnipeg.

Miss Hockham was born in London, England and came to Canada under the auspices of the Dr Barnardo Home when she was 13 years old, she worked on farms for a time, later coming to Winnipeg where she was employed in various household capacities.

She retired at age 72 years when her employer died and friends arranged her admission to Fred Douglas Lodge. In 1971, due to illness , it was necessary to move her to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.

There are no relatives living in Canada to mourn her death and no known relatives in England. A gravesite service was held in Brookside Cemetery on Wednesday (today) at 2:30 pm Rev S.R. Foreman officiated. The Thomson Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Emma Rose Hockham is buried in Brookside Cemetery (Burial Order #: 73242; Section/Lot/Grave: 30-0229-0.)
