Stanley arrived aged 11 and was placed at Fairbridge Farm School, Pinjarra, Western Australia. He was one of 160 children who came to Australia aboard ‘Ballarat’ in 1928. 115 went to Fairbridge WA, the remainder on to Sydney.

His sister Joyce, aged 9, arrived with him.
