with John Rice, farmer, P.O Farrelton, Ottawa, Quebec

December 12 1900

Age 14, good home, employed at usual farm chores, a good healthy boy, attends Roman Catholic Church, no schooling, has a fair primary education, character-a well behaved boy. Terms-Board and Clothing. This boy appears to be well cared for here. They are very fond of him, and as they have no children of their own, they treat him as their own child. He refers to Mr and Mrs Rice as father and mother. They have a neat, comfortable home. Arthur Murphy is a bright boy, and ought to do well here.

with John Rice, farmer, Farrelton, Ottawa, Quebec

November 6 1902

Age 15, home very plain, situation fair, healthy, attends Roman Catholic Church, character good,
Murphy seems to be a good steady fellow and has adapted himself to his surroundings. He is with an elderly couple and Mrs Rice states that "he runs the farm" and that they could not get along very well without him. He has learned about as much as is possible
on this farm. He is contented.
