NotesPat Murphy: Athens: After a long productive life that he bagn as an orphan in Scotland well known Athens resident Patrick John Murphy died June 1, 1992 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, Brockville. He had been in failing health since January and was a patient for six weeks. Patrick John Murphy was born September 8 1911 in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1926 he came as a Scottish orphan boy to the Fairknowe Home for Boys in Brockville. He was employed as a farm hand with different farmers in the Maynard district. On August 1 1932 he married the former Dorothy Chase who predeceased him. Mr. Murphy was working at Phillips Cables when the Second World War broke out, and in 1940 he joined the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders regiment in the Canadian Army. He served overseas in England and on the continent. After his discharge in 1945 he returned to the PHillips plant where he worked for 32 years retiring in 1977. For over 60 years a member of the L.O.L No 14 and R. B. P. No 883, Addison, he was also a Councillor for the Village of AThens and took an active interest in all events at Centre 76. Well known in the district he was a goal judge for may years. Mr. Murphy is survived by four sons, Don and his wife Bea of Athens, Bob and his wife Anne of Maitland, Gary and his wife Carole of Westport, and Duke and his wife Betty of Brockville. He also leaves his daughter Patsy Loshaw of Brockville. Ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive as well. Friends were received at the Judson Funeral Home, Athens, where both his lodges held a memorial service. His funeral was in the chapel there June 4 with Rev Stan Osborn officiating. Pallbearers were Donald, David and Barry Murphy, Giles Loshaw Jr, Bill Loshaw and Marty Hamilton.
