Parents: Walter & Annie (Millward) Parsons who lived at 64 Court 12 Farm Street in St George, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. John was the youngest of 3 children. He had a brother James (or Albert) and sister Dolly.

John's father, Walter, died about 1905 from a brain hemorrhage complicated by several strokes. John's mother, Annie, worked in the Workhouse Infirmary until she became ill. She then went to live with her sister, a Mrs.Carr, at Prearly (or Brearly) Street where they lived when she put John into the care of The Middlemore Homes.

In 1911, John Parsons, 9, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 172 Middlemore children.
