Commonwealth War Graves Registers and Circumstances of Casualty state that he was Killed in Action by enemy machine gun fire while acting as a company runner during an attack on enemy positions south east of Cagnicourt, Nord Pas de Calais, France. His Next of Kin was his sister, Lizzie Paton of Box 437 Brockville, Ontario and then James Paton of 11 Gleneagles Terrace, Scotstown by Glasgow, Scotland.
