Notes The following records have been discerned for Private Charles 'Charlie' Perring. Listed among those on Barnardo Homes 'Faithful Unto Death' report of the 677 boys who gave their lives in World War One, however his name was 'Charles Perrin', having left off the 'g' in his surname. This spelling was also used in the Library and Archives of Canada to label the only known photograph of Charlie.
1901 English Census records place Charles Perring as 5 years of age in 1896 as a Workhouse Child in Hanwell, Middlesex, England. On the front page of the School Census is written 'Cuckoo Schools', along with Central London District Schools 'Poor Law School for Pauper Children' in Brentford, Hanwell.
Additional Information: Cuckoo Farm on Cuckoo Hill was where the Workhouse got it's name.

Attestation papers were signed 14 Jan 1916 in Strathroy, Ontario. Charles Perring was born 4 Mar 1895 in London, England. He was a Farm labouer at R. Road, Mt. Baydges, Ontario. His Next of Kin was his Mother, Amelia Perring of 23 Alpha Square, Walworth, South East, London, England. 5' 5 1/2" in height with grey eyes and brown hair. His religion was listed as Methodist.
Commonwealth War Graves Registers and Circumstances of Casualty state that he was Killed in Action on attack south west of Thelus, Nord Pas de Calais, France. His Next of Kin was Mrs. A. Perring of 16 Queens Row, and then 38 Doctor Street, Walworth, London, England.
Recipient of the Memorial Cross.
