NotesIn 1887, John Redmond, 12 (along with sister, Catherine Redmond, 8), arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 96 children from Catholic Children Protection Society, Liverpool, England, accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Lacy, and en route to Hotel Dieu, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

"Copy of Reports of Inspection of Pauper Children sent out to Canada made by Immigration Officers of the Dominion Government and received from the Colonial Office on the 12th December 1888.

John Redmond, aged 12. From parish of Liverpool. Placed with Henry Cartz, Newboro' P.O., S. Crosby, Lot 25 in 2nd Con.?Disobedient and stubborn at times, otherwise giving satisfaction, in good home, well cared for, and pleased with his place attends school in winter."

On April 8, 1916, at Broughton, Nova Scotia, Canada, John Redmond, 38, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in Sydney, Nova Scotia; that he was born in Bolton, England; that his next of kin was his sister, Catherine Redmond, who resided at 20 Field Street, Liverpool, England; that his date of birth was September 15, 1878; that he was a laborer; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 2-1/2 inches in height; light complexion; blue eyes;grey hair; and that he was a member of the Roman Catholic faith. A note was written in "weight 116 lbs" and "In the fourth battalion King's Liverpool Reg."
