In 1884, Ruth Sink, 10 (along with sisters, Beatrice Sink, 7; and Annie Sink, 5), arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of Middlemore children en route to various destinations.

Remained nine months with Mrs. Muir; being a great source of trouble through being in such bad health, and troubled with urinal affection, weak bowels, and skin disease, she was returned to the Guthrie Home, London. Mrs. Muir reports her as a remarkably quick intelligent child, but stubborn."
