NotesA birth registration was found for James Brunton Stirling: Date: January 16, 1874, 7:30 AM; Place: Bellevue, Canonmills, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland; Parents: John Stirling, chairmaker (journeyman), and Alison Brown, married September 25, 1857, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

A death registration was found for Alison Stirling, 47, married to John Stirling, cabinetmaker (journeyman): Date: August 3, 1883, 9:15 AM; Place: 21 First Thomas Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland; Parents: George Brown (reputed father), (deceased) and Janet Erchmont, housekeeper (deceased); Cause: Phthisis Pulmonalis, some months.

In 1886, James Sterling, 13, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 29 Scottish children accompanied by Miss Stirling, Edinburgh, Scotland and en route to Aylesford, Nova Scotia, Canada.

On December 5, 1900, Robina Stirling, 28, returned to the United Kingdom with her children, John, 4; Edward, 3; and Robert, 2.

On September 12, 1918, James Brunton Stirling, 44, registered for the United States draft. He declared that he resided at 50 Manchester, Lawrence, Essex, Massachusetts; that his date of birth was September 14, 1874; that he was a non-declarant alien; that he was a citizen of Britain; that he was a mill operator for Tyes Rubber Co., at No. Main, Andover, Essex, Massachusetts, USA; that his next of kin was Robina T. Sterling, who resided at 50 Manchester, Lawrence, Essex, Massachusetts, USA. He was described as medium height; slender build; blue eyes; brown hair.
