Notes Alfred Thatcher was admitted with brother, Victor, to Lambeth Union Schools on April 26, 1894. Their father, George, died November 3, 1896, in Claybury Asylum. Their mother, Annette's, address was unknown. Their sister, Ada, 17, resided at Burrell Street, Blackfriars Road. Their grandfather, Edward Raynor, greengrocer, 17 Burrell Street, Blackfriars Road, was paying 5/- towards the maintenance of the boys, but died prior to 1900.
Alfred was discharged to Barnardo's Homes on August 1, 1900; Victor was discharged to the Church of England's Waifs & Strays Society for emigration to Canada on September 24, 1903.
In 1900, Frederick Thatcher, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canda, in a group of 101 Barnardo boys en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Alfred (now known as "Frederick") was placed with J. Redpath in Assiniboia, Canada.
