NotesIn 1907, Kate Young, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 243 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

It is believed that this is the same Katherine Young who married Robert Kay, another home child, in 1913. Using this theory:

On April 13, 1913, at Napanee, Lennox and Addington, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Robert Kay, 25, farm labourer, born in Glasgow, Scotland, son of James Kay (mother's name is unknown); and Katherine Young, 17, born in Lingfield, Surrey, England, daughter of William Young (mother's name unknown).

Robert and Katherine Kay had three children: Mary Elizabeth Kay; William Ernest Kay; and Harold Robert Kay.

Katherine Young Kay died on November 25, 1918, at the age of 22, in Bath, Ontario, Canada, of tuberculosis of the lungs, the duration of which was 2 years. Her death certificate recorded that she had been born in England and the name of her parents was unknown. The informant was Mrs. A. Amy, the wife of the man who had employed Robert Kay.

Kate Young was born in Otham, Kent. Her father was Henry Edwin Young and her mother Ellen Maryann Kennaird. She had 2 brothers, Henry Stephen Young and William Thomas Young. Both parents and Henry Stephen Young predeceased Kate. After the death of Henry Edwin Young, Ellen remarried William George Broad. There was a child of this union, half sister to Kate, Olive Rosetta Broad. William & Ellen both had children from previous marriages.
