August was interned in a disused factory in Lancaster and kept there for 5 months. He was released mainly due to overcrowding but also due to a Petition signed by several prominent members of Ashton, thereby incurring the wrath of the citizens there who wanted him re-interned. What happened to him is unclear but already in September 1915, a Mr. Francis Webster (pork butcher) was in occupation at 59 Gerard Street and was still there in 1925/6 Wigan & District Directory.Source from the "Past Forward" Magazine and the Makerfield Rambler.
