NotesHe emigrated from Gröningen where his family has lived since 1882 at the age of 15 to England on 15th May 1896.
He became owner of a large butcher business.
In 1923 during inflation in Germany, he visited Gröningen,the village where he had grown up and donated a considerable amount of British Pounds to Gröningen's choir for the acquisition of a new flag and the public celebration of its consecration.
