In 1911, Arthur Victor Bate, 10 (along with brother, Edgar Ernest Bate, 8, and sister, Ellen Maria Bate, 6), arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 172 Middlemore children.

In 1921, Albert Bate, 19, was found residing in the home of William and Mary Fobes in Louisburg, Cape Breton and Richmond, Nova Scotia as an adopted son, his occupation was given as Labourer.

On April 11, 1925, at St. Bartholomews Church, Louisbourg, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, a marriage was registered between Albert Victor Bate, 23, farmer, born in England to Richard Bate; and Laura H. MacKenzie, 18, born in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, to James MacKenzie and Mary Jewell.

Lauretta Bate died on January 24, 1932, of pulmonary tuberculosis. She was buried at the Church of England in Big Lorraine, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.

On August 8, 1932, at Louisbourg, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, a marriage was registered between Albert Victor Bate, 32, farmer, widower, born in England to Richard and Maria Bate; and Geraldine Grace Luddington, 23, born in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Mark Luddington and Sarah McCarthy.
