Fanny Marie Salloway, nee Mitchell died on March 19, 1909. Their father Thomas Salloway sent Thomas and his sisters Frances, Winifred, and Florence, to be cared for by Barnardos.
In 1909, Cyril Salloway, 9, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 161 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
He was placed with the family of Alex Mc Conner, who immigrated to Canada in 1879 from Scotland. Attended school for 4 months in 1910. He could read and write.
Family stories related that Cyril served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War I, but no documentation was found to corroborate this. The picture upload is the only one we have of Cyril. Dated Dec 1, 1916: Cyril is the young man standing.
As a young adult he immigrated to the United States and settled in San Francisco, Califorina. Thomas was an actor. He was an extra in the movie "The Greatest Show On Earth", Red Skelton movie "Jalopy" and many more. His stage name was Charles Tate.
Cyril died of a heart attack in 1977 in San Francisco in the hotel he lived in. He never married and had no children.
