In October, 1917, James Turrell enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service No. 71790 AC). He declared that he was residing in Glencoe, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Enfield, Middlesex, England; that he was a member of the Presbyterian faith; that he was a machinist; that his next of kin was his brother, Arthur Turrell, who was serving in the United States Armed Forces, c/o Quarter-Master, Camp Sherman, Chillicothe, Ohio. He was described as 5 foot 3-1/2 inches in height; ruddy complexion; brown eyes; and dark hair.

On October 24, 1919, James Turrell entered the United States through Detroit, Michigan. He declared that he was 29 years of age; that he was a machinist; that he was residing in Glencoe, Ontario, Canada; that he had no relatives residing in Canada; that he paid for the crossing himself; that he had $80 with him; that he was going to stay with a friend J. D. Brown, 144 Calumet, Detroit, Michigan; that he planned to stay permanently; and that he was born in Enfield, Middlesex, England. He was described as 5 foot 4 inches in height; ruddy complexion; brown hair; and brown eyes.

In 1930, James Turrell, 41, auto machinist was residing at 10 Southard Avenue, Toledo, Lucas, Ohio, with his wife, Helen A. Turrell, 35. They had been married for 7 years; he stated he was born in Canada; that he had immigrated to the United States in 1919; and that both his parents were from Scotland.

James Turrell died at his home at the age of 69 years, on February 5, 1960, in Toledo, Lucas, Ohio. Death Certificate Number 14039.
