In 1910, Peter Smith, 12, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 100 children en route to Brockville, Ontario, Canada. (His brother, James MacKenzie Smith, arrived in 1905, on the Corinthian, with Quarriers.)

In 1911, Peter Smith, 14, is shown as a domestic for Donald Angus Grant and family in Charlotteburg, Glengarry, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as 1897 and his immigration year as 1910.

On January 16, 1917, Peter McIntyre Smith enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service Number: 1090187; Force: Army; Unit: Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment); Division: 164th Bn.) He declared that he resided in Lancaster, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Glasgow, Scotland; that his next of kin was his sister, Mary Smith, of 52, Montgomery St., Eaglesham, Glasgow; that his date of birth was July 1 1897; that his trade was farming; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 4-1/4 inches in height; medium dark complexion; brown eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith. He had distinguishing marks of the tip of his right little finger was smashed.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers states that Peter was previously reported dangerously ill and that he was at the Military Isolation Hospital in Aldershot, Hampshire, England.
Private Peter McIntyre Smith died on July 30, 1917. He is buried in ALDERSHOT MILITARY CEMETERY, Hampshire, United Kingdom (Grave Reference: AA. C14).
