In 1874, Eliza Bird, 9, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 148 Maria Rye children en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.

Eliza was placed with a Mr. Mercer, who found her obstinate. (Possibly Robert Mercer, a Goaler in Chatham, Kent, Ontario, Canada) She was subsequently placed with a Jacques family in Chatham. (Probably harness-maker, Francesse Jacque and family of Chatham, Kent) It is unknown how long she remained with the Jacques family.

On September 28, 1880, at Dunville, Haldimand, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Eliza Bird, 16, born in England to William Bird and (mother's name not known); and Benjamin Sider, 24, farmer, born in Wainfleet, Haldimand, Ontario, Canada, to Peter and Elizabeth Sider.

Benjamin and Eliza had seven children: Thomas Sider (1882 - 1936); Minnie Sider (born January 5, 1884); Clara Sider (born about 1886); Verney Sider (born March 1, 1886 - 1971); Leroy Sider (born January 29, 1890 - 1957); Franklin Leslie Sider (born October 12, 1893 - 1973); and Ernest Cecil Sider (born October 13, 1896).

Thomas Sider moved to the United States. By 1891, all the children, with the exception of Thomas, were working as farm labourers in Wainfleet, Haldimand & Monck, Ontario, Canada.

Benjamin F. Sider died on August 20, 1934, in Wainfleet, Haldimand, Ontario, Canada. He is listed as a widower. He was buried in Zion Cemetery, Wainfleet, Haldimand, Ontario, Canada.
