Papers of the Middlemore Children's Emigration Homes - Birmington, England: reveal that it was the father George Allsupp who 'gave' his three children to the Home on Oct 15, 1877. Comments attributed to him: mother dead, living in a Lodging House (Mrs. Smith's). When wife lived had a tidy house; after her death went rambling about the country (where the children with him? - not sure). The eldest girl Eliza illegitimate and her name was Eliza Matty. (Matty is the maiden name of Eliza's mother. She was probably not formally adopted by George Allsupp but for the most part she is referred to as Eliza Allsupp. Her birth record shows her name as Lizzie Matty).
George states that he has buried four children.

In 1878, Eliza Allsup, 11 (along with brother, John Allsup, 3, and sister, M. A. Allsupp, 5), arrived at Quebec, Canada, with a group of 88 Middlemore children en route to London, Ontario, Canada.

Their first stop in London, Ontario was the Guthrie Home. Records from Guthrie Home: Eliza was taken by Wm H. Sanborn on June 19, 1878. She was returned to Guthrie Home on July 19, 1878 - "she was stubborn, tempered, can do nothing with her".
Eliza remained in the Guthrie Home until Dec 21, 1880 when she went with John E. Campbell in Ekfrid, Middlesex Co. She shuffled around a bit - Dresden, Clarksbury, Norfolk and Wardsville until she went with Rev W. J. Taylor in St. Mary's, Perth Co., Ont. The Guthrie Home had records of Eliza until Dec 27, 1889 (she was 24 yrs old).
Because of the census record of 1891, it appears that Eliza (who was with the Rev. W. J. Taylor family in 1889) was with the Brown family in Barrie for a few years, at least over the census period. She was back with the Rev. W. J. Taylor family in 1901 - perhaps until she married.

On September 10, 1902, at Middlesex, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Elizabeth Allsopp, 30, born in England to George Allsopp and Jane Selby; and Thomas Hunter, 29, born in St. Marys, Ontario, Canada, to James Hunter and Sarah Ferris. Elizabeth did lie about her age (s/b 37), her mother's last name is not correct but the rest of the facts should make us comfortable with this being our Eliza.
