NotesColchester Workhouse lists Alice Knight in 1874 as a ten year old orphan.

In 1874, Alice Knight, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 148 Maria Rye children en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.

On December 28, 1887, at Bradford, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Alice Mary Knight, 21, born in England to John Knight and Elizabeth Fisher; and William D. Martin, 23, farmer, born in Ontario to Daniel Martin and Isabella McDonald.

William D. Martin either absconded or died prior to 1891 when Alice (called "May" on the census) and her daughter, Celia, are shown residing with their lodger, John Lowe.

No marriage record can be found for John Robert Lowe and Alice Knight Martin. The Last Will & Testament of John Lowe dated 1912 names Alice Lowe.

Other documents written prior to her death state that she was born in Colchester, England, on August 4th.

John Robert Lowe, painter, 54, (listed as not married) died of heart trouble on July 30, 1917, at Bradford, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada. He was buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Alice died on Feb. 10, 1941 in the village of Bradford, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. According to her obituary she was born in England and came to Canada as a young child, living first in Newton Robinson, West Gwillimbury Twp. and then the greater part of her life in Bradford.
