On November 20, 1905, a marriage was recorded between Mary Ellen Newbold, 17, and Charles Richard Denby, 26, fireman, son of Richard Denby and Sarah Morris, in Brantford, Brant, Ontario, Canada. Mary stated she did not know the names of her parents, and that she was born in England.

In 1911, Mary Ellen Denby (nee Newbolt), was shown residing at Lot 7, Con. 6, Burford, Brant, Ontario, Canada. Other family members included her husband, Charles R. Denby, 32, farmer; Elmer Morris Denby, 4; and Harold Christopher Denby, 1. Mary Ellen stated her birthdate was October, 1890, she had immigrated from England in 1900.

In 1919, Charles R. Denby, 40, moulder, crossed into the United States through Detroit, Michigan, and declared that his next of kin was his wife, Mary E. Denby of Brant, Ontario, Canada.
