NotesMarried to Margarete Etzel. He founded the firm Grater and Sons in Sunderland. His son John Henry Grater (1896-1968) took over the business and carried it on, whereas John Henry's son Conrad William Henry (1921 Sunderland - 2000 Christchurch, NZ) emigrated to New Zealand. There the family was still in the meat business until 1989.
