In 1891, Arthur Cassidy, 2 months of age, was shown residing at 23 Lees Yard, South East Leeds, Yorkshire, England. Other family members included: Mabel Orset Cassidy, 1; Mary Ann Cassidy, 28; and Thomas Cassidy, 30, boot finisher. In 1901, Arthur Cassady, 10 years of age, was shown as an inmate, along with his sister, Mabel Cassady, 9, at a Home/Institution, run by Annie Farkin, matron, at 34 Springfield Terrace, Leeds, Yorkshire, England. (Source: 1901 Census of England; Class: RG13; Piece: 4224; Folio: 49; Page: 15.)

In 1905, Arthur Cassidy, 14, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 51 boys from the Catholic Emigration Association accompanied by D?arcy Arden and en route to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. (Sister, Mabel Cassidy, 11, arrived in Canada on the Bavarian on June 10, 1905; and sister Lily Cassidy, 11, arrived in Canada on the Corsican in July 1909.)

On November 12, 1917, at Saint Michael the Archangel, rue St-Viateur, Montr?al, Quebec, Canada, a marriage was registered between Arthur Aloysius Cassidy, of age, son of the late Thomas Cassidy and Mary [illegible]; and Blanche Burnham, of age, daughter of William Burnham and Bridget Cleary.

On January 5, 1918, at Montr?al, Quebec, Canada, Arthur Aloysius Cassidy, 23, was drafted into the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided at 2805 Drolet Street, Montr?al, Quebec, Canada; that he was born January 15, 1895; that he was born in Yorkshire, England; that he was married; that he was a Roman Catholic; that he was a clerk; that his next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Arthur Cassidy of the same residence; and that he had previously served with the 19th Battery, Montr?al, Quebec, Canada, for six months. He was described as 5 foot 7 inches in height; medium complexion; grey eyes; light brown hair.

His grandson, Jim Leroux recounted:

"I loved, admired and greatly respected my grandfather who was happily married to my grandmother for 56 years at the time of his death. He also worked for the same company for more than 50 years. His four surviving children always wondered about his past, as my grandfather never spoke of it. The only two exceptions were when he mentioned a Mr. Goff(?) and the fact that he worked at a church in Peterborough only to run away because he was unhappy with his chore demands. The Mr. Goff, my grandfather seemed to admire so much could have been a teacher or caregiver that left him with the adage, 'It's not to be, it's what you make it.'"
