Barnardo Boy, Sent to Jail is Going Blind

OSHAWA, Ont., Nov. 26.--According to friends of Fred Townsend, 24, recently sentenced by Magistrate Hind to four years' imprisonment for forging a cheque for $4.50 and obtaining clothing by false pretenses, he will be blind within a year if someone "does not interest himself in Fred Townsend with regard to his eyes."

An immediate appeal is to be made before the appellate division of Ontario against the sentence. The province will pay the costs of the appeal. Townsend came to Canada as Barnardo Home boy.
