John remembered that he went into the Fegan Home at Stony Stratford at age 10. His mother died when he was 5 or 6. John did not believe that they ever moved from the "#1, Bungalow Cottages, Lent Green, Burnham, Buckingham, England. He recalled that they attended the English Church and his Dad was a butcher by trade. John's birth Certificate notes that his father was a Journeyman, perhaps with his own shop.

John had one sister, Daisy, who was a twin, but the other twin, Olive, died at age 6 months.

In April, 1927, John Fox, 14 (along with brother, Charles Fox, 15) arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 46 boys from Fegans Home in Westminster, London, England.

His daughter, Marian Fox Troup, told of the reunion of the surviving Fox siblings in 2002:

"Happy to report on our recent reunion adventure to England with my father, a BHC, John F. Fox. He is 89,coming up 90 this November. We were able to take advantage of the funding from the British Government to pay for his expense and my mother as his traveling companion. He was able to re-unite with his only living sibling, a sister, whom he has not seen virtually since he was 10. What a time we had. He has about 20 nieces/nephews in England/Ireland and we have made contact with them, many in person and some by phone. It was truly a wonderful time. Dad, being the tough person he is, is wanting to go again!! After many tears, 35 rolls of film, we unfortunately had to return to Canada."
